Music Research Program Main Index |
Students enrolled in Music 424, 425, or 426 are required to take part in the Music Research Program. The purpose of this program is to expose students to the methods of research, while facilitating experiments that require the participation of musicians.
Completing this requirement counts for five percent of your course grade. Each quarter, you can participate in either of two ways:
- by participating in an experiment, OR
- by writing a short research essay.
Instructions for each option can be reached by clicking the appropriate link.
We recommend that you fulfill the research requirement as soon as possible. Over the course of the quarter, we will offer more than enough opportunities to participate in an experiment. However, we can only accommodate a limited number of participants during the late weeks of the quarter.
The absolute deadline for fulfilling the quarter's research requirement comes before final exams, on the last scheduled day of classes.
.The involvement of humans in research at OSU is monitored by the OSU Office of Responsible Research Practices which sets pertinent regulations, including procedures for investigating violations of human subjects policy. The Music Research Program is bound by a code of ethics and all experimental procedures must conform to this code. Students participating in the program are encouraged to report violations or lapses of this code following a formal or informal complaint procedure. In addition, formal feedback will be sought later in the quarter.
