Testing Theories

• many theories are strongly correlated:
  
  E.g. tonal fusion, periodicity length, difference tones, and frequency ratio all lead to similar predictions (not surprising since they are based on the same phenomenal experiences)
  
  
• fortunately there are some divergences:
  
  E.g. Tonotopic Interference implies that:
  
  (1) dissonance changes with register (tessitura)
  
  (2) dissonance differs for pure vs. complex tones
