Innate AND Learned

Innate:
positive and negative responses to four basic tastes are evident at birth
Learned:
many foods an "acquired taste"

upset stomach or illness will engender taste-aversion even if the ingested food is not the cause of the discomfort
For the sense of taste, evolution has provided humans with:
  1. an initial set of (innate) dispositions

  2. a mechanism for fine-tuning (learning)
(neither system is infallible)
